The Design Behind The HyyGe Sconce

The concept is Hygge (HUE-gah)

Hygge is a Danish term that has no direct English translation but is meant to convey feelings of coziness and nostalgia. The design is simple and meant to feel like something from a mid- century modern era but with a small nod to more modern design trends. The wall sconce is a 3d printed shell with a walnut veneer and white painted top and bottom. The light uses a warm dimmable bulb to create a feeling of warmth in a basement space. The lamp features two diffusers, on the top and bottom, built into the shell that help spread the light more evenly on the wall and create a nice soft light.

The internals were constructed using a 3d printed base I designed in NX and a low profile candelabra fixture that was heat molded into the 3d printed part. All of the components are joined using carriage bolts and an allen key should the LED bulb ever need to be changed.
