The Design Behind conSEQUENCE

Project Theme- TRANSIESSENCE The dictionary defines the word transient as not lasting, enduring, or permanent. Essence is defined as the basic, real, and invariable nature of a thing or its significant individual feature or features. Together, these values provide a range of responses that stimulate desires for function and change.

Transiessence evokes the emotional relationship between people and objects while proposing new modes of sustainability through interaction. These interactions have been interpreted and defined in a variety of ways that create a new sense of awareness that promote adaptation in regards to consumption, trends, personal identity, and memory.

Consequence- creates an intimate relationship between the user and the light it provides. Requiring the user to become conscious of the lamp’s environment and the environment that surrounds us every day.

How it works - Inside the anodized aluminum cap is a halogen bulb with a gravity switch.  Consequence is shaped like an hourglass to be representative of time and that metaphor helps convey that you need to flip it over to turn it on.  Once the lamp is flipped the halogen light turns on.  Users must be mindful of how long they have the lamp on and not to waste that time.  The inefficient halogen lamp releases heat and as time goes on the wax diffuser within the glass begins to warm.  If the user is not cognizant of the time they have left the lamp on they will be left with a frustrating mess of hot wax all over the surface in which consequence sits.

Being wasteful has its consequences.
